Hero Dog Grace Gets Adopted by Good Samaritan

Posted on Monday, April 16, 2012

Grace, the 2 year old Black Lab became an internet sensation when she refused to leave the side of a fallen friend struck by a car, in the middle of a busy road in La Puente, Calif.

A motorist at the scene, worried that Grace may also get hit, put down traffic cones to divert other drivers as the Labrador mourned her comrade. She refused to leave the side of her companion even though the other dog had died.

Animal control officials arriving on the scene took the scared but unharmed Lab to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center, where workers there named the dog Grace.

This amazing dog had no tag or microchip and appeared to be in good health.

Since no one came forward to claim her, people have been lining up to adopt the dog, but officials say a new owner has been chosen.

Grace, the extremely loyal dog is now also a lucky dog having been adopted by that good Samaritan. The unnamed man who helped protect Grace from the traffic on the busy street as she stood guard has become her new owner.

Puppy Rescued From Top Of Train By Future Mommy

Pup Spotted Mysteriously On Top Of Train

A Black Lab puppy who appears to be about three months old is lucky to be alive after being rescued from the top of a train car. No one knows how the puppy ended up on top of the Norfolk Southern train that left Pennsylvania on it’s way to Atlanta.

Tina Parker of Pickens and her family were stopped at a red light when she spotted what she first thought was trash on top of the train. She said that the “trash” started moving and she realized it was a puppy.

Call To 911 Brings Four Firefighters

Tina called 911 and followed the train to Liberty about six miles away. A team of four firefighters arrived to help rescue the stranded pup.

She Was Scared

A Norfolk Southern spokeswoman was alerted to stop the train which would have been traveling about 50 mph. The Parker family then helped the liberty firefighters locate which car the puppy was on and firefighter Derek Sargeant used a ladder to reach the puppy on top of the Hunter boxcar.

“We don’t know how long she was up there,” Liberty assistant fire chief Chris Rowland said. She was scared. She was ready to come down.”

A Happy Ending

The puppy has been taken in by her heroes the Parker family who have named her Boxcar Hunter or Boxy for short. The puppy seems healthy and happy to be off the train and is getting used to her new surroundings with the families two other dogs.

Take Your Dog’s Collar Off

Posted on Friday, September 16, 2011

Submitted by Aurora P:

This goes out to all dog lovers. This is Apple, a bright young black lab puppy with the world ahead of her. Being nearly five months old, it was almost time for her first obedience class, but she had already taken it upon herself to climb into the bathtub for late night bathroom breaks and never needed treats to learn a new trick. Apple was born to please and be praised, with a hearty full body wag at the mention of her name. She loved swimming in the lake near our house – the only activity that would really put her to bed.

On Monday, August 8th, she died in her crate. We had never heard about the dangers of collars, and she wore hers most of the time in the house. Her crate had a latch at the top and after a quick trip out of the house, she was found hung by her collar.

This message is important because after talking to several other dog owners, I have learned that what happened was not only a horrible shock to us, but to them as well. Many have admitted to keeping a collar on a large dog after a walk and it is my hope that Apple’s story can save other innocent dogs from an undeserved fate. She was the life of our home and her life was taken from her too early. Please remember to either remove their collar every time or invest in a break away collar. It could save your dog’s life.

This is my 11 year old Labrador, who was 10 years old at the time when this pic was taken. Sure, this picture doesn’t have all the puppy cuteness most other pictures on here have, but I think it does radiate a sense of how calm and relaxed old dogs – especially Labradors – can get.

Montana Dog Is A Math Genius

A Highly Intelligent Dog

We have all come across dogs in our lives that are smart, can do great tricks, or who are known for their special talents. This is the story about Beau, a dog from Montana who is truly unique! Beau has developed a knack for math and is even considered a local celebrity.

Beau Learns A Variety of Math Skills

According to his owner, David Madsen, the 12 year old black Lab started showing early signs of intelligence as a puppy. Since then Madsen has been able to teach Beau a variety of math skills including counting, adding and subtracting, some division and he has even memorized square roots. If he tells Beau there are six dogs at the park and three dogs leave, and then asks him how many are left, the dog replies: “Woof, woof, woof.” Madsen wasn’t surprised that Beau was able to learn to do math.

Owner Uses Dog Biscuits For Reward

It took some time and patience to teach Beau his math skills. Madsen would lay out a handful of dog biscuits and reward him when the number of barks equaled the number of treats. “He caught on that rewards were associated with the correct number of barks,” Madsen said. Chris Ricciardi, chief of the Finley Point-Yellow Bay, Montana Fire Department, vouches for Beau’s math talents. “This dog is amazing,” Ricciardi said, “Dave will say, ‘What’s two and three?’ Then the dog will go, ‘Bark, bark … bark, bark, bark.’”

Beau Becomes a Local Celebrity

Beau even had a chance at national stardom when he auditioned for Stupid Pet Tricks on the Late Show with David Letterman. Although he didn’t get picked for the segment, he still became famous in his local area of Montana where he visits shops and restaurants performing some of his tricks for locals and visitors.

Black Lab Saves Senior

Bella Heard His Cry For Help

A 67 year old man is lucky to be alive thanks to a Black Lab named Bella and her good sense of hearing.

Jeff New, was nearly crushed to death when his Ford Explorer rolled on him last Monday. New was yelling for help but nobody seemed to hear his cries. Nobody, except for Bella that is. Bella was nearby and was able to hear him calling and get help when he needed it the most.

Kept On Barking and Barking

Bella’s 13 year old owner, Andrew Bazar, said that Bella was whining and pacing that afternoon, she was continually barking and seemed obsessed with something outside the window.

Realizing that something must be wrong, Bazar went outside to investigate and that’s when he noticed neighbor, Jeff New, lying in his yard. He quickly rushed to his aid and dialed 911.

Bella Saved His Life

Bella’s ability to alert her owner to the trouble most likely save New’s life. New had suffered wounds to his abdomen and legs from the crushing vehicle.

Good dog Bella!
