With great sadness and heavy hearts we wish to inform you that the Belfast City Council in Northern Ireland has officially given word that they have humanely put Lennox to sleep at 7 a.m. this morning, July 11, 2012.

On May 19th 2010, Lennox, a five year old American Bull dog Labrador cross was taken by the Belfast City Council Dog Wardens from his loving family home. Lennox committed no crime nor were there ever any complaints about him by the public. Lennox was seized by the authorities based on the fact that he looked like a Pitbull type. He was assessed to be a danger to the public and ordered to be put down.

Lennox has spent two years in an undisclosed location while his family and campaigners fought feverishly to save the now seven-year-old dog. But despite pleas from millions across the world and offers of help from Victoria Stilwell, host of Animal Planet’s It’s Me Or The Dog, to pay for Lennox to come live in the USA, the Belfast City Council was intent on putting Lennox to sleep.

I’m so sorry to hear this :-( I remember when I’d first heard about this poor dog. I don’t even know what to say. How horrible for his family. There are no words.

  2. Bev Hoffman says:

I think the people serving on the City Council are heartless. Maybe there own beloved pets should be seized, put in inhumane living conditions and then murdered. They can then explain to their children and grandchildren that it was the proper thing to do. Rot in hell council members.

  3. Rachael P says:

The Belfast City Council should be ashamed of themselves and I agree that they should all rot in hell. How dare they punish this beautiful dog for no reason at all. How dare they!! His family must be beyond devastated. My prayers are with them at this terribly sad time. :(

  4. Jim Parsons says:

I think it is shameful that Lennox was killed. There was no valid reason for this atrocity — he had never attacked or harmed another animal or person, his only “crime” was his appearance. The members of the Belfast City Council have done a grave injustice to the family that loved and cared for this dog, they should be ashamed of their actions and the community should demand their resignation.

  5. Laurie M. says:

What a shame! Perhaps we should start pulling people off the street just because we don’t like the way they look, just in case they might commit a crime, lock them up for a couple of years and then euthanize them. Maybe we should start with the Belfast City Council.

  6. Debby S says:

I am so sorry for the family. At least Lennox isn’t suffering anymore. It is terrible that he spent the last 2 years of his life in such horrible conditions. He was probably so confused & afraid because he didn’t know what he did wrong. He probably thought his family had left him. I hope that they were able to be with him at the end. I beleive that the Officals knew what they did was wrong but weren’t going to admit it. Instead of doing the right thing, they didn’t. If these people were elected to their postions, they need to be voted out! R.I.P Lennox.

  7. Lee says:

I wish evils unimaginable on those responsible for Lennox’s suffering and death. There is nothing “humane” about the BCC’s action at all; their action was savage. The BCC was offered a generous alternative by Ms Stilwell but yet despite this, chose to kill Lennox. It’s unforgivable.

    Blessings to his human family.

    Horrible, shameful, despicable.

  9. michelle y. stone says:

shame on the bcc. with the offer from victoria stilwell to have him bought to the u.s. he was still put to sleep. you are disgusting and hope you know you will have to answer in the end for what you have done and will get what you what you deserve. i am sick to my stomach about this and am glad i live in the u.s. if i lived there i would be not proud of my country let along want to live there. he did nothing to deserve this. it is unforgivable and will not be forgotten ever. this has become world wide and you have upset many. hell is to good for you involved. may lennox rest in peace now and for what reason.

  10. I can’t believe they went thru with it even after all the negative press! Smh…kinda makes you feel unheard!!!

  11. Theunisia says:

Gods wrath will come down on you so hard one day….may you be ready to fall on your knees begging for forgiveness!!!!! How could you do this to an innocent animal????????

  12. Cara says:

this is the most disturbing story I’ve ever read. Horrible, cruel, unspeakable. I cry for you and your dog. I’m so so sorry so heart breaking.
