A Fun Gift At Christmas

Christmas is a great time to adopt a pet as a family member either before or after, but no matter how great a surprise a puppy may be, some shelters urge caution in giving a pet as a gift for Christmas.

Shelters are usually overwhelmed after the holidays with animals they receive from well-meaning people who buy pets as gifts.

A Busy Time For A New Puppy

New puppies require constant attention and supervision, and with all hustle and bustle during the festive season it can be hard to fit the little critter in. People are so busy during the holiday season they don’t have time to fulfill a new pup’s around-the-clock demands.

While a puppy is sure to add to the Christmas fun, it is important to remember that pets come with a list of responsibilities that don’t disappear after you take the tree down. A lot of thought and consideration should go into the decision of owning a dog.

Make Sure A Child Is Ready

A parent should make sure that if considering a pet as a gift for a child, they are ready to help with the responsibility of owning and caring for a dog.

Getting a pet is a decision that the entire family should be involved in.

A Possible Solution

So if you want a pet for Christmas, make a plan and maybe just unwrap a picture of the dog or leash on Christmas and then go pick it up after all the festivities are over.

Perhaps after the holiday season is a good time when you can give that new family member all the love and attention it deserves.
