Tiny Puppy Brings Out The Soft Side Of “Mean” Pit Bull

Tough Looking Pit Bull Picked Up Wandering The Streets
His name is Gentle Ben for those who have come to know him. A rough and tumble looking Pit bull with a surprising soft side, found wandering the streets.
He Ended Up in the Same Cage With Tiny Pup Gavin
Ben was taken off the streets and placed in a kennel at an animal control facility with a tiny 8 week old puppy named Gavin, another street dog.
One might question why an animal control officer would put an adult male street dog in the same kennel with a tiny vulnerable puppy. Perhaps that person knew something about the pair or perhaps they got lucky.
Pit Bull Ben Is Really A Soft Hearted Soul
Looks can be deceiving as is often the case, and Ben was not the tough street dog that his appearance first suggested. Instead, he is a soft hearted soul who took on a mothering role to the homeless pup. He befriended the younger pup, always allowing him to eat first out of the same bowl and looking out for him. Ben offered comfort to Gavin in a place where it was unlikely to be found.
Report Was Wrong – Both Were Going To Be Saved
The unlikely pair captured the interest of concerned individuals who despaired over the prospect of them being killed at the shelter. Sadly, shortly after a plea for their lives was circulated to networking channels, someone mistakenly reported that the older dog had already been killed. A gut-wrenching thought – a gentle, nurturing soul killed without ever having known love or kindness. But alas, the report was wrong and the truth came out – both dogs were going to be saved by Rugaz Rescue who were willing to take them, and their medical issues, on.
Gentle Ben and his tiny charge will be cared for and will have a chance to know the kindness which they have obviously been denied. A Chip-In has been started for the pair.
The Pair Were Helped By Compassionate People
Ben has an infection in the socket where his eye should be and the little pup, Gavin, is suffering from demodex mange. But with the help of the compassionate people who learned of their story, both can and will, receive the help that they need. They are both expected to make full recoveries.
In an update on August 28th/2011 Rugaz Rescue Inc. announced that Gentle Ben is home and little Gavin is now foster care, good news for both of these sweet, loving dogs.
Please visit Rugaz Rescue on Facebook and let them know that their efforts are appreciated. Without their help, this unlikely pair may have very well died before knowing love – before witnessing the best of humanity.
