The Real Bionic Dog! – First To Have All Artificial Legs

A Dream Come True

This is an extraordinary story of how much this dog is loved and how far people will go for the welfare of their pets.

It was a dream come true for Nakio, a Red Heeler Cattle dog, when he could once again run, jump, and play, as the first dog ever to be fitted with all four prosthetic legs.

Abandoned In The Winter

What started off as a normal life for Nakio and his brothers and sisters in Nebraska soon turned into a case of abandonment. When his owner’s home foreclosed, they fled, leaving Nakio and the other dogs of only 5 weeks old behind.

After areas of the basement became filled with water, Nakio’s paws got stuck as the water froze. Thankfully, the litter was taken to an animal rescue center, but unfortunately they couldn’t save Nakio’s paws from frostbite.

Christie Tomlinson who works as a Veterinary technician at the animal rescue center, thought Nakio would be a perfect addition to her family along with Poki, her Jack Russell Terrier mix. Tomlinson sought the help of OrthoPets, a Denver company that specializes in pet prosthetics to help with Nakio’s damaged paws.

Up To The Challenge

OrthoPets founder, Martin Kaufmann, was up to the challenge of making Nakio the first ever dog to have 4 prosthetic legs, allowing him a chance at a happy life. Kaufmann said, “Even though he was hobbling, he was still just trying to enjoy life, Nakio’s personality was great.”

Happy At Last!

Nakio is now living with a family that adore him who are glad he was able to make it through such a trying ordeal.

This dog is so lucky to have an owner who cares this much about him. I always hear about these stories in veternarian offices about how their “quality of life” is not so good so they’ll put them to sleep. If there is a will there is always a way and I doubt anyone wants to die. This is an amazing story : )

It brings tears to my eyes to know that his paws were too far gone but I am grateful to know his owners now loves him enough to do all that for him. Thank u for loving him. He looks so very happy and now he has a wonderful home. God bless u.

I am so happy for Nakio. It looks like the rest of his life will be filled with love, happiness and playing. It’s a good thing that he will not remember what happened to him when he was a puppy. A big hug for Nakio!

It’s people like the ones that abandoned them that makes me weep for society. How can anyone do that to another living creature. I am just so happy that the new owners are so great and that they are able to make the sacrifices the other a-holes could not for their loved one.

Story breaks my heart to think of the emotional and physical pain those puppies had to endure . May God always bless those people who have a heart big enough to rescue animals ! Those animals have a soul and emotions also !
My Classic Seal Point SIAMESE Cat is a rescue and I spent a lot of money to try to save the vision in her left eye but to no avail ! She is now ten years old in is my Feline ️Sweetheart ! I sing a lullaby to her every night when she is ready for bed ! She loves it and sleeps in “The Big Bed” for about three hours and then jumps down and gets in her own . Every morning she awkens me at 6:00 AM for breakfast and she has Royale Canine/Chicken or Salmon and I have my coffee ! Her coat is silky/shiney and her teeth are beautiful ! She has a collar for the special seasons and also holidays ! She is so dear and sits under the piano bench when I play seasonal music !
She is my very, very dear ️Sweetheart and my Albanian grandson loves her very much . And so do I !

This is such a sad sad story with a wonderfully happy ending. Kristie, thank you for being there for Nakio and saving this beautiful dog’s life. It is just unbelievable to me that people can be so cruel and heartless. They should be punished by law!
