A Miracle For George And Doug

Two Golden Retrievers were miraculously unhurt after falling nearly 180 feet off the edge of a cliff, at the Clackamas River in a remote area of Oregon.

The dogs, eight-year-old George and ten-year-old Doug, slipped on the steep embankment and were later found by the river bed.

After the fall, their owners, Jennifer and John Grady, spotted the dogs along an inaccessible part of the river.

Mr Grady said a storm knocked down a tree a few weeks ago, moving the edge of the cliff inside the fence line at the back of his property.

Dustin Shatner, the Gradys’ 20-year-old neighbor, helped in the rescue. While waiting for rescue crews to arrive, he hiked down a deer trail to try and reach the dogs.

‘I fell in love with the neighbours’ dogs, just like I love my own. So, I couldn’t let them sit down there shaken and alone.

‘They seemed real scared, they were whimpering and shaking.

‘They wouldn’t leave my side either.’

When rescue crews arrived, they found it difficult to get to the dogs because of the frigid, shallow water and getting them on the boat was definitely challenging.

They ended up carrying each of the dogs across a log to the boat.
